Lil Tjay says that he’s “confused” about what happened outside of the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino when Offset was shot earlier this month.
In an interview with Billboard about his upcoming album They Just Ain’t You, Tjay briefly spoke about the situation that he was arrested for allegedly being connected to. “I’m just as confused as everyone else about that,” he said. “My lawyer told me not to touch on it too much. What I can say is the album will really hit home for my fans.”
The incident occurred on April. 6 when Offset was shot after an alleged altercation with Lil Tjay and members of his entourage. Tjay was ultimately booked on a charge of misdemeanor disorderly conduct. Once released from jail, Tjay claimed that Offset told bystanders that Tjay shot him.
“The last thing I see was Offset looking at me like this: ‘Yo, that n***a shot me, that n***a shot me!’” Tjay said. “N***a is a rat, n***a. … I didn’t do no damn fighting. Did I shoot? That shit is crazy. I will smack the shit out of Offset. He would never play like that with me in his life. Ask Offset.”
Soon after his release, Tjay’s lawyer, Dawn Florio, responded to the rapper’s commitments by denying that he was involved with the altercation altogether. “The only thing that Lil Tjay was being looked into for was for creating a disturbance,” she told Complex. “Those are the charges that he’s fighting. As far as I’m aware, there’s no charges related to shooting Offset. There’s video everywhere — there’s no video that shows that Tjay is involved in any of this.”
Offset eventually responded to Tjay calling him a rat, taking to social media to address him. The Migos rapper wrote “u ain’t buss nun” on Instagram, seemingly confirming that Tjay didn’t shoot him.
Four days after the shooting, Offset shared a statement on social media in which he thanked those who checked on him and showed him love.
“I’m good….but I’m planning to be better!” he wrote. “I’m focused on my family, my recovery, and getting back to the music…realizing that life is made up of quiet wins and loud losses…. Life’s a gamble, and I’m still playing to win.”
In an interview on the Creators Inc. podcast, Offset spoke about how he’s already back interviewing and performing on stage days after the shooting.
“Gotta keep pushing, like the Energizer Bunny, man,” he said. “Keep this shit pushing. We don’t got time to be slowing down.”
