Soulja Boy is reminding fans that dropped three project at once long before Drake dropped Iceman, Habibti, and Maid of Honour on the same day.
Shortly after Drake’s massive triple-album release dominated streaming platforms and social media, Soulja Boy hopped on X to claim he had the same idea years ago.
“I was the first rapper to drop three projects in the same day. Btw [smiling face with sunglasses emoji],” he wrote.
Alongside the post, Soulja shared a Rap Radar article from 2009 with the headline, “Soulja Boy’s Droppin’ Three Mixtapes On Halloween.”
The resurfaced article referenced Soulja’s plan to release three separate mixtapes on Oct. 31, 2009, during the height of his early success. As other X users noted, however, Gucci Mane had previously dropped three mixtapes at once, weeks before Soulja Boy’s triple release.
Soulja Boy’s claim arrived as Drake’s three-project release continues generating headlines across the music industry.
The Toronto superstar dropped 43 songs across Iceman, Habibti, and Maid of Honour, splitting the releases into distinct styles and sounds. Iceman leaned heavily into rap and diss records, while Habibti explored R&B influences, and Maid of Honour focused more on dance-oriented production.
The rollout included livestream episodes, celebrity cameos, hidden clues frozen inside of giant ice blocks, and multiple apparent shots aimed at rivals, including Kendrick Lamar and Rick Ross.
Soulja Boy has long argued that many modern rap trends trace back to his influence, especially when it comes to internet marketing, viral promotion, and digital music releases. Over the years, he has repeatedly referred to himself as one of hip-hop’s original internet disruptors.
