Offset’s mom is calling him a “miracle walking” after the rapper performed live on Saturday (April 11), less than a week since a shooting that left the former Migos member hospitalized.
Latabia Woodward, mom to the 34-year-old performer, shared an Instagram Story on Sunday.
“I don’t typically address things about my son on social media,” Woodward said of Offset, real name Kiari Cephus. “I learned a long time ago that facts rarely survive the internet, and I refuse to feed that machine.”
But, Woodward said, “today I have to speak.”
“Six days ago, my son was shot. Four days later, he was released from the hospital. Last night, he was on a stage doing what he loves to do,” she continued. “He is a miracle walking. That is God’s grace, that is God’s mercy.”
Offset was shot outside of the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida, on Monday. The shooting allegedly came amid a fight between associates of Lil Tjay and Offset after Tjay “directed members of his party to start a fight with another group of males,” per a probable cause affidavit.
Following the shooting, Lil Tjay was arrested and booked on a charge of misdemeanor disorderly conduct-affray and was released Tuesday. He denied shooting Offset and called the rapper a “rat.”
Offset was hospitalized but well enough a day later to smoke a cigarette, a photo showed.
“Thank you to everyone who’s checked in on me and showed me love!” Offset said in a statement on Friday. “I’m good….but I’m planning to be better! I’m focused on my family, my recovery, and getting back to the music…realizing that life is made up of quiet wins and loud losses…. Life’s a gamble and I’m still playing to win.”
On Sunday, Offset shared a video on Instagram showing him performing onstage in a wheelchair. At one point during the performance, he stood up and was met with thunderous applause. “REAL LOVE,” the post’s caption said.
Elsewhere in her video, Woodward thanked fans and loved ones for their support. She also said that she inadvertently left her phone at home amid the chaotic aftermath of the shooting.
“To every person who reached out, prayed, called, text, or sent a message, thank you,” she said. “If I haven’t responded to you directly, please know it was not intentional. Your kindness meant everything to me. We love Kiari, we love all of you.”
