Sophie Cunningham managed to generate headlines before the Indiana Fever and New York Liberty even tipped off.

According to Sporting News, ahead of the matchup in Brooklyn on Saturday, June 6, Cunningham arrived at Barclays Center wearing a fitted pink dress that quickly made the rounds online. In a league where pregame tunnel walks have become part of the overall entertainment package, the Fever guard once again found herself at the center of the conversation.

Over the past year, Cunningham has become one of the WNBA's most visible personalities, evolving from a respected veteran into one of the league's most-discussed figures. Her social media presence, podcast appearances, friendship with Fever superstar Caitlin Clark, and willingness to speak candidly have made her a frequent topic of conversation far beyond Indiana basketball.

The Fever-Liberty game already carried significant attention. Indiana entered the contest looking to build momentum after a win over the Atlanta Dream, while New York was trying to extend its winning streak on its home floor. With Clark drawing national attention and the Liberty remaining one of the league's marquee teams, the matchup was among the most anticipated games on the schedule.

The moment also continues a stretch in which Cunningham has rarely been far from the spotlight. Earlier this season, she made headlines after publicly challenging how sports media framed her comments about her contract negotiations with Indiana.

"I think sports and media in general, we need more honesty," Cunningham said during Fever media day after pushing back on reports suggesting she was unhappy with her new deal.

That came shortly after she signed a one-year contract worth $665,000 to remain with Indiana and shared a TikTok documenting her adult baptism.

In recent months, she has also generated discussion through her podcast, a viral exchange with Clark over an Instagram photo dump, and comments about Los Angeles that sparked debate online.

Despite the attention surrounding her off-court life, Cunningham remains an important piece of Indiana's roster. Entering Saturday's game, she was averaging 9.6 points per game.
