WNBA star Sophie Cunningham is clarifying how she really feels about her new contract with the Indiana Fever amid ongoing speculation.

Earlier this month, the Fever re-signed the 29-year-old guard for another year for $665,000.

During a later appearance on her Show Me Something podcast, she opened up about her thoughts regarding the contract. She acknowledged that it was a difficult period in her career because she was coming off a significant injury last season. She also noted that she understood that there would be pressure on her to prove that she could still contribute to the team.

However, she also admitted that the new contract was not what she had been expecting.

"I'm not even gonna lie to you. That was a little kind of frustrating because I'm someone who like ― I kinda shoot it straight, where if I wasn't feeling good or like I was hesitant, I think I would have said something and been honest because I'm just at the point in my career where I just wanna win. Like I just wanna win,” she said.

Cunningham said that she will use this as a reason to push herself even more and “not get too comfortable.

Some people who watched the interview interpreted this to mean that Cunningham was unhappy with her salary, despite it being an increase from last year.

She took to X on April 20 to shut these rumors down, emphasizing that this isn’t the case.

"I’m gonna shut this down right now. I’m not mad about the money. I just wanted more years because I love it here,” she said. “I wanted to get a house so I could bring my dog and donkey to Indy with me. That’s it. That’s the truth. I think we have something very special here in Indiana!!"
