Sophie Cunningham is weighing in on another sports-related internet storm—this time involving Angel Reese, Wendell Carter Jr., and Jalen Duren.
During a recent episode of her podcast, Show Me Something, Cunningham reacted to the social media fallout surrounding Reese after she reposted a clip showing Carter Jr. dunking on Duren during the Orlando Magic’s playoff series against the Detroit Pistons. The repost immediately fueled online speculation because Duren is widely rumored to be Reese’s ex-boyfriend.
Discussing the situation with co-host West Wilson, Cunningham suggested there was likely unresolved tension behind the post.
“Something had to have happened for [Reese] to keep, I don’t know, wanting to embarrass him in some way,” Cunningham said.
When Wilson floated the possibility that “nothing happened,” Cunningham pushed back directly: “But then move on! Worry about the current boyfriend.”
The exchange quickly circulated online, especially after the playoff drama escalated during Game 7 between Orlando and Detroit. Pistons fans began chanting “Angel Reese” at Carter Jr. during Detroit’s blowout win, adding another layer to an already viral storyline.
By the end of the series, Duren and the Pistons had advanced, while Carter Jr. and the Magic had been eliminated.
Reese has not publicly addressed either the chants or Cunningham’s comments.
Earlier this offseason, Cunningham generated attention after criticizing Los Angeles in a TikTok video, saying the people she encountered “all look the same” and claiming many influencers struggle with face-to-face interaction despite projecting confidence online.
Before that, she sparked widespread discussion after joking on her podcast that she had “herpes” while referring to a cold sore linked to HSV-1.
At the same time, Cunningham’s profile continues to grow beyond basketball. She recently joined USA Network’s WNBA coverage team as a contributor while re-signing with Indiana on a one-year contract worth $665,000.
