Former NFL star Dez Bryant has claimed that Offset reached out to him just hours before he was injured in a shooting outside of a casino in Florida on Monday (April 6).
In a pair of posts shared on X, formerly Twitter, on Tuesday (April 7), Bryant shared a tweet that showed Offset and Lil Tjay DMs that resurfaced in the wake of the shooting and Tjay’s arrest. In the DMs, Tjay threatened to beat up Offset for not paying him the $10,000 he allegedly owed him. Bryant suggested that he had a similar experience with the former Migos rapper.
“I don’t ever talk about what I do or my relationships with anyone but I’m going to give y’all a quick story between me and Offset,” Bryant wrote. “I beat Offset out of 8K he tried to take a nap on me and I go to tap on him to wake him up… telling him I need that 8k… his patnas saw me tapping on him… I can tell his patnas wanted to jump on some bullshit.”
Despite allegedly being owed money by Offset, Bryant said he decided to forget about it and move on, especially because he could see that he was “completely out numbered.”
“I charged it to the game,” he continued. “I swear to God Offset reached out to me yesterday three hours before he got shot on a money play… I thought about it said, ‘I’m good.’ Then I saw the news later on and was like damn… Some people don’t play about they money.”
In a follow-up tweet, he responded to someone who suggested he “got punked” over $8,000. “Bruh ain’t nobody bitch me,” Bryant responded. “Most importantly I’m not getting mad over nothing I can make within 5 minutes… Some of us carry a lot of sense. WTF I look like getting hurt over some money I can make 100 million times… Kids don’t ever listen to a fool like this.”
Offset was treated for injuries at a hospital following the shoot, a spokesperson associated with the rapper told Complex. They said that he was in “stable” condition and was “being closely monitored.” It was reported that Offset was shot near the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in the Hollywood area of Florida.
Lil Tjay was later arrested, but his lawyer said that he was not involved with the shooting. “Lil Tjay has not been shot, nor has Lil Tjay been charged with any shooting,” said Tjay’s lawyer, Dawn M. Florio. “Any reporting to the contrary is false. We encourage people to consult trusted news sources, and to verify the accuracy of any reporting, before reflexively sharing or repeating baseless rumors.”
Following his release from jail, Tjay claimed that Offset falsely accused him of being the triggerman in the shooting.
“The last thing I see was Offset looking at me like this: ‘Yo, that n***a shot me, that n***a shot me!’” he told reporters. “N***a is a rat, n***a. … I didn’t do no damn fighting. Did I shoot? That shit is crazy. I will smack the shit out of Offset. He would never play like that with me in his life. Ask Offset.” Tjay previously beefed with Offset and alleged that he owed him as much as $10,000.
In the wake of the shooting, podcaster and radio host Ebro Darden claimed that he also owed him money. “We bet $5,000. I was prepared to pay him $5,000,” he said. “I’ve talked to him a thousand times since then and never jammed him about $5,000… I’m not going to chase you around. Five grand is not a big deal to me.”
