No, Emma Stone is not playing the titular role in the upcoming Miss Piggy film, as some may have preposterously assumed.
The would-be performance, which would have almost certainly marked the most challenging yet rewarding turn yet in Stone’s ever-illustrious career, will instead be taken on by none other than Piggy herself. At least, that’s the word straight from Stone, who’s up for another potential Golden Globes win this Sunday thanks to Bugonia.
But first, a note for those who may be asking “Wait, there’s an Emma Stone and Miss Piggy movie on the horizon?” while reading this: Such a project, as previously reported, does indeed exist. Furthermore, both Stone and another 2026 Golden Globes nominee, Jennifer Lawrence, are aboard as producers.
Asked about the film in a recent W Magazine piece, specifically whether she herself would be tackling the Piggy role, Stone passionately pushed back against the apparent ludicrousness of the suggestion.
“First of all, that is the biggest insult to Miss Piggy I've ever heard, and I will not have her name dragged through the mud like that,” Stone, a two-time winner at both the Oscars and the Globes, said. “Why would I play a literal star? She's the greatest. No, of course I'm not playing Miss Piggy. And neither is Jen. We pale in comparison. Are you out of your mind? Miss Piggy is playing Miss Piggy. She would be storming out right now at the mere suggestion.”
The Miss Piggy-focused film isn’t alone in recent developments of the Muppets variety. In February, Disney+ will debut an anniversary-celebrating Muppet Show special, with Seth Rogen and Sabrina Carpenter among those aboard the project as executive producers. Carpenter, a 2026 Grammys nominee, will also star.
