Jennifer Lawrence loves Leonardo DiCaprio’s latest film, One Battle After Another. But she said she's "sad" the actor isn't really a father after seeing him portray one onscreen.
The pair sat down for Variety’s Actors on Actors series, where she revealed that the film, which also stars Teyana Taylor, Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro, and Regina Hall, is one of her “favorite” movies.
“I really loved seeing you be a dad,” Lawrence added, at around the nine-minute mark, prompting DiCaprio to laugh awkwardly. “I'm so sad that you don't have a teenage daughter, you look great with one.”
In One Battle After Another, DiCaprio plays Bob Ferguson, father to Willa (Chase Infiniti), whose mother is Perfidia Beverly Hills (Taylor). Ferguson, a former revolutionary who is now paranoid, is living off the grid when Will goes missing, resulting in him going on a desperate rescue mission.
DiCaprio has been widely praised for his acting and was subsequently nominated for the best actor, musical or comedy award at the Golden Globes. Overall, One Battle After Another earned a total of nine Golden Globe nominations, including best motion picture, best director, and best actress.
As Lawrence pointed out, DiCaprio doesn’t have any kids and has never been married. Some fans think she was trolling the 51-year-old, who has a reputation for dating younger women. He’s currently in a relationship with 27-year-old Italian model Vittoria Ceretti, with whom he has been romantically linked since 2023.
In August, for Esquire, One Battle After Another director Paul Thomas Anderson asked DiCaprio, “If you didn’t know how old you are, how old are you right now?” to which the actor replied, “32,” and jokingly added that he “turned emotionally 35 last year.”
DiCaprio and Lawrence are gearing up to appear together in the upcoming Martin Scorsese film, What Happens at Night, which follows an American couple who travel to a small European town to adopt a baby.
