Inside Anna Kendrick’s ‘Weird’ Grammy Night with Katy Perry Amid Sexual Assault Allegations

As Ruby Rose’s claims rock Hollywood, a decade-old Conan clip of Anna Kendrick and Katy Perry’s ‘aggressive’ Grammy moment is being seen in a new light.

A decade-old interview with Anna Kendrick is drawing renewed attention after Ruby Rose publicly accused Katy Perry of sexual assault.

In the resurfaced 2014 appearance on Conan, which was featured in Page Six, Kendrick described an unexpected interaction with Perry at that year's Grammy Awards, calling the encounter “weird” and describing the singer as “aggressive.”

During the interview, Kendrick recalled attending the Grammys in a low-cut Azzaro gown when Perry allegedly approached her. “Katy Perry finger-banged my cleavage. It was a weird night,” Kendrick said, prompting laughter from the audience.

Conan O’Brien then asked whether that was typical behavior for Perry, leading Kendrick to respond that the dress was “kinda asking for it.” She added that she would have been “a little sad” if no one had reacted to the outfit.

The clip has resurfaced as Perry faces renewed scrutiny over separate allegations made by Ruby Rose. The actress and former Orange is the New Black star claimed on Threads earlier this month that Perry sexually assaulted her at a nightclub in Melbourne in 2010. According to Rose, the alleged incident happened while the two were out together at Spice Market nightclub.

Rose alleged that Perry approached her while she was lying with her head in a friend's lap and “pulled her underwear to the side” before forcing unwanted contact.

Rose claimed she reacted by vomiting. “After it I threw up on her, I told the story publicly but changed it to be a ‘funny little drunk story’ because I didn’t know how else to handle it,” she wrote.

Rose also claimed she stayed silent because Perry later offered to help her obtain a U.S. visa.

Additional context emerged this week when a 2011 essay written by Rose resurfaced online.

In the piece, which was obtained by People, Rose referenced a night out with Perry and wrote that she “vomit[ed] on Katy’s foot.” At the time, Rose did not mention any assault allegations, but said the night played a role in her decision to stop drinking.

Victoria Police later confirmed they are investigating a historical sexual assault report connected to an incident in Melbourne in 2010.

Perry has denied Rose’s allegations through a representative, who called the claims “categorically false” and described them as “dangerous, reckless lies.” The statement also said Rose has a history of making public accusations that are later denied.

Shortly after the denial was issued, Perry posted an Instagram Story featuring her song “By the Grace of God” with the caption, “I love you.” The 2013 track centers on survival and recovery.

If you or someone you know has experienced sexual assault, help is available through the National Sexual Assault Hotline at 800-656-4673 or online through RAINN.
