Latto is pushing back against Joe Budden after the veteran media personality questioned her songwriting credits and suggested Drake may have played a role in crafting parts of her new album.
The debate began during a recent episode of The Joe Budden Podcast, where Budden reviewed Latto's latest project, Big Mama. While discussing the album, the former rapper claimed some of the material felt heavily influenced by Drake's style and speculated that the 6 God wrote for Latto on the album.
“I feel like recently, she [has been giving] me a lot of Drake,” Budden said. “You remember Latto’s intro from her last album? Most people said that this specifically sounds like Drake penned this [and] did the [reference] track.”
He added shifting focus to Latto’s “Hostage” track, “This song sounds like it could’ve been on Her Loss. It sounds like they could’ve took a couple of joints from there […] It’s too soon for me to hear ‘Shabang’ flow from somebody else. This sounds like the ‘Shabang’ flow to a T.”
Budden's comments eventually reached Latto, who wasted little time responding. In a post directed at Budden, the Atlanta rapper shared the hand-written lyrics for her song "Hostage.”
Although Latto did not directly address every aspect of Budden's criticism, her response made it clear she wasn't interested in allowing questions about her pen game to go unanswered.
Big Mama has generated significant discussion online since its release, with fans dissecting lyrics across the project. One of the most talked-about records has been "Gimme Dat," where listeners speculated that several bars were aimed at Cardi B amid ongoing tension between the two rap stars.
On the song she raps, "Bitch said what? Let's clock it / Really got a Hermes store in my closet / Talkin' 'bout buyin' big mama a bag like my n***a ain't already bought it."
The line appears to be in response to alleged audio from a phone call between Cardi and Ice Spice's manager, which leaked last fall, where Cardi called her peer, "pussy ass Latto."
"I'mma show y'all, I'm not Latto," the voice thought to be Cardi said in the clip. "I'mma beat her the fuck up. I'mma knock her the fuck out. All y'all. I'mma beat her ass. I'mma get Riot beat up by my n***as. Y'all gonna see what the fuck is up. Y'all think I'm fucking pussy ass Latto?"
