Detroit rapper Allstar JR will remain in custody after a federal judge ruled he should not be released while awaiting trial.
According to court records from his detention hearing, Allstar JR (real name Jeremy Christopher Ford) was ordered held following proceedings on April 27 in Detroit. The ruling came after Magistrate Judge Kimberly G. Altman determined that no release conditions would adequately ensure public safety or his appearance in court.
The decision stems from a hearing in front of Judge Altman, where she evaluated the nature of the charges, JR’s background, and other factors tied to the case. The Judge’s decision states that the government met its burden to justify detention, citing concerns tied to the alleged conduct and prior history.
Documents from the case also note that the court found strong evidence supporting the charges and pointed to the potential seriousness of the alleged offense if proven.
Ford was then ordered transported to Texas, where the alleged incident at the center of the case took place. His first scheduled court appearance in the Lone Star State is set for May 14, 2026.
The charges are tied to a shooting inside a Houston restaurant earlier this month. Federal prosecutors allege that JR, who is charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, was involved in a violent altercation that escalated after a robbery attempt.
According to the criminal complaint, a confrontation broke out when several individuals approached JR, leading to a struggle during which a firearm allegedly fell to the ground. Authorities claim JR retrieved the weapon and began firing as people attempted to flee the scene.
Investigators say one individual collapsed after being struck, while others ran for safety. The complaint further alleges that additional shots were fired toward another person and that the incident continued after the initial exchange.
The case has drawn attention due to reports that NBA YoungBoy affiliate Ben10 was among those injured in the incident.
Following the incident, authorities pointed to social media posts and a music video released by JR that they say reference the shooting. With bond denied, Ford will remain in federal custody as the case moves forward.
