Akademiks has shared a video of Drake gifting him an OVO owl chain during a recent meetup — check it out below.
Sharing the footage on Friday (May 22), the viral moment shows Ak opening a jewelry box while having dinner with Drizzy. After seeing the diamond-covered OVO chain inside, the streamer can be seen appearing genuinely shocked.
"Oh this is not real, is it?" he asks the Iceman hitmaker in the clip, before following up with: "It's legit? For me?"
"It’s overdue," Drake responds. "You’ve been repping for a long time."
Adding another layer to the story in his X post, Akademiks claimed he was given a choice between taking a big bag of cash or sitting down with Drake personally.
"Choice was $1 mil cash in a duffel bag or dinner W the 🐐," Akademiks captioned the post. "Guess what I chose." The meetup led to the picture Akademiks shared during the release of Iceman.
The moment comes after Drake referenced on Iceman the long-running debate on whether people would rather take money or have dinner with Jay-Z. "I take 500K down to dinner, I never could learn shit from none of y’all," Drizzy spits on "Whisper My Name."
Many fans interpreted the lyric as a direct flip on the famous "$500K or dinner with Jay-Z" conversation that has circulated online for years.
Jay-Z himself previously addressed the debate during a 2023 interview with Gayle King, saying people should simply take the money because all of his knowledge already exists in his music. "You gotta take the money," Jay said at the time. "Everything that I'mma teach you, you got all that in the music."
Akademiks' relationship with Drake has become increasingly visible throughout the rapper’s recent album rollout and public feuds.
Over the past year, the streamer has repeatedly defended Drake during his highly publicized battle with Kendrick Lamar while also receiving criticism from fans who believe he favors the OVO camp too heavily.
