Young Thug has once again seemingly implied that his friendship with Gunna is beyond saving.
Gunna recently shared a post on Instagram that reflected on what he’s been through over the past few years, including losing close collaborators after they accused him of cooperating with authorities in the YSL RICO case after he took an Alford Plea deal. “The real flex is keeping a good heart when life keeps giving you reasons not to,” the post read. “When you been lied to, used, switched up on, and counted out… but you still show love. You still got loyalty in you. Still show up for people, even when nobody showed up for you.”
Gunna suggested that the world will continue to “test” him and others, but he wants to move forward with “good intentions” despite what he’s been through.
While not a direct response, fans speculated that Thug appeared to respond not long after Gunna’s post. “N***a acting like he the victim lol,” wrote Thug, without providing more context on who he was responding to.
During an interview earlier this year, Thug was asked about the possibility of resolving their differences, but said that he’s unable to look at Gunna the same after the way things unfolded following their arrest on a RICO charge.
"I'm not gonna be able to look at you the same, no matter what," Thug said on the It’s Up There podcast. “We can go get a trillion dollars together. I'm still not gonna be able to look at you the way I looked at you before we went to jail.” While he admitted that he loves Gunna “to death,” he conceded that they need to separate ways. “I know you love me. We love each other to death,” he added. “And we just going our own ways. You know how shit goes. Sometimes, you just do that.”
When Gunna was released from jail after taking an Alford plea, which involved him pleading guilty to a racketeering charge while also maintaining his innocence, he insisted that he was not interviewed by authorities and did not cooperate or agree to testify. Despite the conditions of his release, many artists, especially Lil Baby, have continued to insist that he “snitched” on Thug and the rest of YSL.
More recently, 21 Savage said that he believes their friendship can be mended. “The only way that’ll be patched up is if Guns says something to him first," 21 Savage said during an episode of Perspektives with Bank. “Because (Thug) ain’t do nothing wrong to me, in that situation.” He also doesn’t fault Gunna for accepting the deal. “I be going back and forth about the shit, because in my heart, I don’t feel like he did it to hurt him," he said. "But then again, I feel like n***as will do anything to get out, too.”
