New York City's sanitation department took a shot at the San Antonio Spurs by listing the team on its website as an item residents can dispose of.
On its homepage, NYC’s sanitation department has a search bar where users can type in what they want to throw away, leading to a dropdown menu of items with disposal instructions.
Ahead of the NBA Finals, the search menu has a new feature: When you type in “Spurs,” the team’s name fills into the auto-complete bar. Once selected, the site leads to a message reading, “New York Knicks. Go New York, go New York, GO! Here's hoping for a clean sweep!”
The Spurs are gearing up to face off against the New York Knicks in the 2026 NBA Finals, which gives the city's trolling a little extra bite. Game 1 kicks off on Wednesday (June 3) at 8:30 p.m. ET. on ESPN.
It’s been a long time since the Knicks were in the NBA Finals. To put it in perspective, the last time was right around the Y2K panic, when Ja Rule, Eminem, Missy Elliott, Britney Spears, and more all dropped pivotal albums. It was 1999, the same year that The Matrix, Varsity Blues, and Austin Powers all hit theaters.
Since then, it’s been a whopping 27 years.
When the Knicks advanced to the NBA Finals last month, celebrity fans went crazy at the prospect of the team being back.
“KNICKS TO THE MOTHERFUCKING FINALS,” wrote Timothée Chalamet. “THAT’S IT.”
Tracy Morgan expressed his excitement while at the game, holding up a sign that read, “KNICKS IN FOUR.”
Whether the Knicks win the upcoming series will depend on whether they can stop the Spurs’ star player, Victor Wembanyama, and fellow elite players Stephon Castle, Keldon Johnson, and De’Aaron Fox. The team is fresh off beating the defending NBA champs, the Oklahoma City Thunder, in a grueling seven-game series.
