Timothée Chalamet, Spike Lee, Tracy Morgan, and more were understandably beside themselves after their beloved New York Knicks advanced to the NBA Finals for the first time since 1999.
“KNICKS TO THE MOTHERFUCKING FINALS,” Chalamet, who’s back with more Dune brilliance this December, wrote in an all-caps Instagram Stories update on Monday (May 25). “THAT’S IT.”
Moments earlier, the Knicks, led by coach Mike Brown, overtook the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 4 with a final score of 130-93. Underscoring the gravity of the moment, as longtime Knicks fans are well aware, is the fact that the team hasn’t had a chance to take it all the way in nearly three decades.
To put it all further in perspective, the last time the Knicks were in the NBA Finals, Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace and blink-182’s Enema of the State were both fresh in the public consciousness, and Bill Clinton was still in the White House.
None of this was lost on Knicks superfans Chalamet, Lee, and Morgan. All three were seen going through a full spectrum of emotions after it became clear that the Knicks would indeed have another shot at a chip this year.
See more reactions below, including from Ben Stiller and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
In a recent interview with Complex, Spike Lee, a dedicated Knicks mainstay for decades now, predicted that Jalen Brunson and company would be securing a championship title “this year.”
Will Spike’s remarks ultimately prove prescient? We’ll find out soon enough, with the Knicks now poised to take on either the Oklahoma City Thunder or the San Antonio Spurs.
