In the wake of former University of Michigan coach Sherrone Moore's spectacular downfall, some attention has focused on the massive 55% salary increase given to his executive assistant, Paige Shiver.

According to The New York Post, Shiver received the big salary increase at the beginning of the 2024-25 fiscal year, "with her annual pay jumping from $58,025 to $90,000, the records show." She was "promoted to the role of executive assistant to the head coach in mid-November," The Post reported.

She was first hired by the university in 2022 as Assistant Recruiting & Operations Coordinator, according to Detroit Sports Nation.

According to The Post, Moore is accused of breaking into Shiver's apartment, leading to criminal charges against the now-terminated coach. However, it has not been verified whether Shiver is the accuser in the case or whether the incident just happened at her apartment.

Kati Rezmierski, the prosecutor on the case, said in court that Moore was in a "years-long relationship" with the victim, who allegedly broke up with him on Monday, December 8, sparking the chain of events, according to NBC News.

Moore is accused of "making numerous phone calls and sending numerous texts,” spurring the woman to cooperate with an investigation into the coach at the University of Michigan that ultimately led to his termination, NBC News reported.

After he was fired, Moore was accused of entering the victim's home without permission and then grabbing butter knives and scissors, NBC reported.

"'I'm going to kill myself,'" Rezmierski told the court that Moore allegedly told her, according to NBC News. "'I'm going to make you watch. My blood is on your hands. You ruined my life.'"

Moore has been charged with "one felony -- third-degree home invasion -- and two misdemeanors: stalking in a domestic relationship and breaking and entering," ESPN reported.

Shiver is from a sports-focused family. Her dad is a longtime scout for the Chicago Bears. In fact, the Bears wrote a profile story about Shiver when she was still in college, revealing that she was battling an illness.

"Paige was diagnosed with Pompe Disease, a rare, progressive disorder that disables the heart and skeletal muscles and affects only about 1 in 40,000 people," that 2016 story says. "As Paige knows all too well, the primary symptoms of Pompe Disease are muscle weakness and respiratory weakness."

"I get a lot of pain throughout my body," she wrote in a letter about her illness, according to the Bears. "When I am in pain, I am really in pain and there is nothing that can be done but hope and pray that it will go away. This disease has been such an impact on my life and sometimes I feel as if it has taken over my life because every day is a battle."

However, Shiver recovered enough to forge a career at the University of Michigan.
