Russell Wilson says he still believes he can play in the NFL—but for the first time in his career, football may not be the only option on the table.
The veteran quarterback confirmed to The New York Post that the New York Jets offered him a contract following a recent visit to the team’s facility. At the same time, Wilson revealed he is also being pursued for television opportunities, leaving the 10-time Pro Bowler weighing two very different next steps.
“It was great,” Wilson said while attending BTIG Charity Day in New York. “They offered me, and I’m trying to figure out what the next best thing is for me to do. I still know I can play ball at a high level, but also I have an opportunity to do TV [analysis], so we’ll see what happens.”
As previously confirmed by NBC, the Jets’ interest centers around a veteran backup role behind Geno Smith, Wilson’s former teammate in Seattle. The organization has been searching for experienced depth at quarterback, particularly with Bailey Zappe, Brady Cook, and rookie Cade Klubnik currently sitting behind Smith on the depth chart.
Wilson’s résumé stands out among the remaining free agents. Across 14 NFL seasons, he has thrown for 46,966 yards and 353 touchdowns while earning 10 Pro Bowl selections and winning Super Bowl XLVIII with the Seattle Seahawks.
Even during a difficult 2025 campaign with the New York Giants, Wilson still produced flashes, including a 450-yard, three-touchdown performance during one of his starts.
That Giants season, however, also marked a sharp shift in his career trajectory. Wilson opened the year as New York’s starter before the team pivoted to rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart early in the season. By the end of the year, Wilson had fallen down the depth chart as the Giants cycled through multiple quarterback combinations.
Despite the benching, Wilson remained publicly committed to continuing his career. Earlier this offseason, he said he was “not blinking” about his future in football and insisted he still had more to give on the field.
