Russell Wilson is weighing two very different versions of his future.
The veteran quarterback confirmed to NBC Sports that the New York Jets have made him an offer to join the team, but he also acknowledged that opportunities outside football are now part of the conversation. He also said he is currently deciding between continuing his NFL career and potentially stepping into television.
“It was great,” Wilson said of his recent visit with the Jets. “They offered me, and I’m trying to figure out what the next best thing is for me to do. I still know I can play ball at a high level, but I also have an opportunity to do TV, so we’ll see what happens.”
The Jets’ interest centers around a backup role behind quarterback Geno Smith, creating a full-circle moment for the two veterans. Earlier in their careers with the Seattle Seahawks, Smith spent two seasons backing up Wilson. Now, the possibility exists that Wilson could return the favor in New York.
Reports of the Jets’ pursuit surfaced after Wilson visited the organization late last month. According to reporting around the meeting, Smith was supportive of the idea and interested in having Wilson join the quarterback room. The Jets had already spoken with Wilson before the NFL Draft and before bringing him in for an official visit.
The decision arrives after a turbulent 2025 season for Wilson with the New York Giants. He opened the year as the Giants’ starting quarterback but was benched after three starts as the organization shifted toward rookie Jaxson Dart. By the end of the season, Wilson had fallen to third on the depth chart while the team cycled through multiple quarterback combinations.
Across six appearances last year, Wilson completed 58 percent of his passes for 831 yards, throwing three touchdowns against three interceptions. Despite the difficult season, he made clear at the time that retirement was not part of his plan, saying he still believed he could play “at a high level.”
Wilson’s résumé remains one of the strongest among active free-agent quarterbacks. Over 14 NFL seasons, he has thrown for nearly 47,000 yards with 353 touchdown passes, earned 10 Pro Bowl selections, and led Seattle to a win in Super Bowl XLVIII.
