Amid all the excitement of the New York Knicks’ incredible comeback victory during Game 4 of the NBA Finals on Wednesday (June 10), former NBA star Iman Shumpert was feeling the electricity in the city and joined fans walking the streets in celebration.
Shumpert, who started his NBA career with the Knicks in 2011, was clearly happy about the Knicks winning 107-106 against the San Antonio Spurs and joined fans celebrating on 7th Avenue in downtown NYC on Wednesday evening. Videos circulating on social media show Shumpert, wearing his old No. 21 Knicks jersey, mingling with fans and getting right into the crowd. He also held up his hand and yelled, “Knicks in five!”
After the game, Shumpert was scheduled to appear on the ESPN podcast Brian Windhorst & the Hoop Collective. Windhorst noted that they saw him walking off in one of his game-worn Knicks jerseys, and he told the podcast hosts, “Bro, I’m heading to 7th Avenue with JR [Smith], I’ll see you later.”
Game 4 of the NBA Finals proved to be the biggest yet, with the Knicks just one win away from their first title in over 50 years. With a 3-1 lead in the NBA Finals following the victory, the team was able to claw back a win after the Spurs were leading by as much as 29 points. The 29-point comeback is the biggest in NBA Finals history.
The Knicks will next face off against the Spurs for Game 5 on Saturday (June 13).
