Fat Joe says New York City subway riders are so wary of one another that even free Knicks merch wasn't enough to let their guard down.
On Tuesday’s episode of the Joe and Jada podcast, the rapper shared an experience he had earlier this month in which he handed out Knicks merchandise on a subway train and came away convinced that many riders no longer trust the people around them.
"Nobody trust nobody on the track," Fat Joe said, as seen in the clip linked above. "So I'm out there giving out free Knicks shit.”
“They’re scared to take it,” co-host Jadakiss quipped.
According to Fat Joe, even passengers who recognized him were reluctant to accept the giveaways.
“The ladies know it's Fat Joe and they scared to [take it], they think I'mma smack 'em after I give him his shit,” he said.
He went on to describe what he sees as a culture of distrust on the subway, saying riders often keep their heads down and avoid getting involved because of the behavior they regularly witness.
“You know how you see all that wild shit on the train? Everybody on the train is like this," he said while mimicking a blank expression.
“N****s mothers is on the train like this," he added, acting out another guarded look, before reiterating, "Nobody on the train trust nobody on the train."
Jadakiss then joked, "That's why you got to start dancing. Just start doing shit … How do we make the train better?"
Fat Joe replied, "I don't know because there's n****s taking shits on the train … How about this? The minute I come out the train, 30,000 people, 'Yo, Crack!' They stopping the car. It's a different life in the train. I'm telling you, n****s is, like, traumatized in the train.”
The New York Knicks will take on the San Antonio Spurs for Game 4 on Wednesday (June 10) at Madison Square Garden. Wu-Tang Clan is set to perform for the game’s halftime show.
New episodes of the Joe and Jada podcast air exclusively on Netflix.
