Grand Theft Auto VI, though it still doesn’t quite feel real to type out these words, will be a real thing that actually exists come November.
In recent weeks, the patience of fans has been handily rewarded with details on how to get in on the pre-order action, and what to expect come release day. On Wednesday (June 24), for example, Rockstar Games confirmed the exact timing of the pre-order launch, plus the price point for both the standard and ultimate editions.
One detail tucked into the latest messaging from Rockstar, namely a description of the physical version of what quite easily stands tall as the most-anticipated game in the history of the art form, has arguably received the lion’s share of attention from those partial to tangibility.
Here’s how Rockstar describes the physical version of GTA VI in its latest news release, shared Wednesday (June 24):
“The physical version of Grand Theft Auto VI, containing a download code inside the box, will be available starting November 12 to support pre-loading.”
In short, that description does indeed make it sound like the physical version will not actually include a disc. When reached for comment, Rockstar directed Complex to its designated GTA VI pre-order purchase support FAQ page, seen here.
For many fans, the increasing lack of emphasis on real, hold-it-in-your-hands media in the world of gaming has been a source of frustration for some time now. With a title as unfathomably anticipated as GTA VI, specifically, it’s easy to see why that frustration is being voiced with such gusto.
Below, we highlight a few of the more impassioned, not to mention hilarious, reactions to the physical-but-not-really-physical controversy.
