Inde Navarrette is looking back on the difficult stretch between acting jobs and what she did to pay her bills.
In a new interview with Complex News’ Jillian Superstar, the 25-year-old actress said she went a year and a half without landing an acting role after filming Obsession, despite continuing to pursue opportunities.
"I was auditioning, I was doing everything, just nothing was sticking," she told Complex near the six-minute mark in the video linked above. "I wanted to pay rent and I wanted to do things. So I was walking dogs, I was streaming, doing everything I could.”
She said she had always wanted to take acting seriously, but her schedule on Superman & Lois left little time between seasons to pursue other projects.
While she was searching for her next role, streaming became another outlet.
Navarrette told Superstar she built her own PC in 2022 and started streaming because she loved watching other creators like Jacksepticeye and Jenna Marbles, and later enjoyed watching Vanillamace.
"I loved streaming and watching and then I would have so much fun playing video games to the point where I was like, 'I'm doing this by myself in my room. Why don't I try?'" she said. Although she enjoyed it, she added, "I would still love to do it, but I don't have time."
Navarrette also reflected on the audition process for Obsession, saying she sent in a tape, received an invitation to do a read via Zoom, and then moved on to a chemistry read.
She admitted that the Zoom audition did not go well because she knew how she wanted to approach the character but felt disconnected emotionally.
"I think I was in a space personally where I was so shut off from my own emotions, and with Nikki, you need all of them,” she said.
For the final chemistry read, Navarrette said she committed fully.
“If I have this opportunity, I'm doing everything that I possibly can,” she recalled, saying she left feeling proud of her performance and was even more “excited” when she later received the call that she had booked the role.
