Meryl Streep just revealed new plot details for The Devil Wears Prada 2.
“It’s been twenty years. Andrea has gone off and done good work for journalism,” the Hollywood veteran told Stephen Colbert on the April 1 episode of The Late Show.
Streep continued, explaining, “At the beginning of the (sequel) film, all of the media outlets — even Runway — is under siege by our new digital overlords. So she’s out of a job,” the actress said, referring to Andrea. “So she needs a new job, and a series of circumstances lead her to this moment where she comes back to Runway.”
As shown in the trailer for The Devil Wears Prada 2, Miranda Priestly seemingly doesn’t even remember Andrea, despite everything they went through in the 2006 movie.
Fans think this is a brilliant character detail, since Priestley considers that whole storyline with Andrea Sachs from the first film “beneath her.” Yet others think Miranda is only “pretending” not to know Andrea as a power move.
“Miranda completely forgetting the events of the first movie because they were beneath her is a great move,” one fan wrote in the comments section for the sequel’s trailer, garnering over 52 thousand likes.
“Miranda pretending not to know Andy is everything,” said another.
“I bet Miranda is pretending she doesn't remember Andy, but she'll ultimately reveal she knew it was her all along,” a commenter wrote.
Stanley Tucci gave insight on the subject, telling Fandago in March 12 interview, “What’s beautiful about Meryl’s performance is that you’re not really sure if she does remember or doesn’t remember. And so, it’ll be up to the audience to decide for themselves.”
