Adrian Grenier, who portrays Nate in The Devil Wears Prada, is opening up about his "disappointment" over not being asked to return for the highly-anticipated sequel film, The Devil Wears Prada 2. As to why he was not invited back for the follow up film, the 49-year-old actor believes it had something to do with the widespread “backlash” of his role from fans.
In an interview with Page Six on March 13, the Entourage star talked about not being asked to revive his role as Andy Sachs’ boyfriend. “We’re all fans of the movie, whether or not we’re in it,” he began. “Obviously, it was a disappointment that I didn’t get the call to be in the sequel, but I also understand there’s some backlash with Nate, the character, so that might have something to do with it.”
When the interviewer asked him to clarify, questioning whether Grenier really believed his absence from the sequel film was just a result of his character’s backlash, he responded, “As opposed to what?”
Fans React to Nate Not Returning for ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’
Following the interview, many fans took to Reddit to discuss Grenier’s theories on why Nate won’t be featured in the second movie. While some think it’s just a harmless creative choice, others are simply happy to see Nate gone.
“I think his arc was complete, I don’t know what else he would bring to the sequel,” one commenter wrote in the r/entertainment subreddit.
“I for one had absolutely no interest in seeing where his character went,” said another.
“I mean yeah, his character is the worst part of the movie,” a separate commenter chimed in. “It’s not entirely his fault, but the whiny boyfriend who keeps putting down his girlfriend’s career isn’t why the movie is getting a sequel.”
