Anne Hathaway just dropped a new single for her upcoming film project, Mother Mary, and fans are already weighing in.
After Entertainment Tonight posted a clip of The Devil Wears Prada actress belting her new song “My Mouth is Lonely For You,” the comments section quickly filled up with mixed responses.
“Wtf is this,” one commenter wrote on the Instagram post, published April 1.
“Baby, stick to acting,” said another.
Alternatively, others were quick to praise Hathaway’s single.
“Anne Hathaway might unironically become my most streamed artist of the year and I can’t complain,” a commenter wrote on an A24 Instagram post from April 1 which teased the song.
“The devil works hard but Anne works twice as hard,” said another.
Mother Mary is a musical drama film by A24 and will be released in theaters on April 24. Alongside Hathaway, other actors on board for the project include Euphoria star Hunter Schafer, as well as the lead actress and creative force behind Chewing Gum, Michaela Coel.
The movie centers on a pop star reconnecting with her estranged best friend and former costume designer (per People). According to the movie trailer, the film will feature original songs by Jack Antonoff, FKA Twigs, and Charli XCX.
Hathaway admits that preparing for the role gave her a sense of “humility,” since portraying a trained pop star requires skill. She told Vogue in a cover story from July 7 2025, “I had to submit to being a beginner. The humility of that- knowing you’re going to suck. And it has to be ok. You’re not ‘bad.’ You’re just a beginner.”
Mother Mary will be one of Hathaway’s many projects released in 2026, including the highly-anticipated Devil Wears Prada 2, The Odyssey, The End of Oak Street, as well as Colleen Hoover’s best-selling novel adaptation for Verity.
