According to Meryl Streep, The Devil Wears Prada 2 garnered so much fan frenzy while shooting the film, that cast members needed police barriers set up to keep them protected from the crowd.
“Even though we were aware of the impact of the first film two decades ago, I think none of us were prepared for the ambush of both goodwill and avid attention that engulfed us,” the actress revealed to Harper’s Bazaar in a March 25 cover story. “We needed police barriers and crowd control. Buses of fans turned up, and paparazzi swarmed...” Streep continued, adding how anxious all the attention made her, saying, “Annie kept her cool, but I was unnerved.” (Annie, referring to her co-star of the movie, Anne Hathaway.)
The announcement for The Devil Wears Prada 2 was revealed in July 2024, with shooting beginning on June 30, 2025 and wrapping up in October of that year. Since the sequel was announced, fans have patiently been waiting for the follow up film.
Who Will Star in the Sequel to ‘The Devil Wears Prada’?
The upcoming film will feature several core members from the 2006 movie, including Hathaway, Streep, Stanley Tucci, and Emily Blunt. However, not everyone in the cast has been invited to return for the sequel. Adrian Grenier, who plays Andy Sachs’ boyfriend in the first movie, expressed “disappointment” over not being asked to return for the second film.
“We’re all fans of the movie, whether or not we’re in it,” Grenier told Page Six on March 13. “Obviously, it was a disappointment that I didn’t get the call to be in the sequel, but I also understand there’s some backlash with Nate, the character, so that might have something to do with it.”
Be sure to catch The Devil Wears Prada 2 when it hits theaters on May 1.
