Barbie Ferreira was a central part of the Euphoria cast, which is why fans were so shocked when she announced her exit from the show ahead of season 3. While Ferreira has made previous statements about why she decided to part ways with Sam Levinson’s series, the 29-year-old actress is now providing more details on her choice.
“With Season 2, it just felt like the character wasn't Kat anymore,” she explained in an April 10 interview with Collider Ladies Night. “I think everyone knew that the end of the story was there because we didn't have anything else to put… I mean, obviously there could have been, but it just wasn't happening.”
The Faces of Death star went on to say that she felt the HBO hit failed to expose her “full potential” as an actress. “I felt like I wanted to do more things,” she explained regarding her decision to leave the show. “I didn't care if it was like the biggest TV show on HBO. And I went straight into doing like $1 million budget indies, you know? It's just more about expressing myself… I felt like I wasn't showing my potential as the actress that I know that I am.”
In previous interviews, Ferreira said her decision to leave Euphoria was because she no longer wanted to be reduced to the “fat best friend” role. She said while speaking to Dax Shepard on the Armchair Expert Podcast on April 3 2023, “I really wanted to be able to not be the fat best friend. I don’t want to play that, and I think they didn’t want that either.”
Despite rumors that she walked away due to a reported feud with Levinson, Ferreira shut down speculation by telling Collider it was a “mutual decision” to end her storyline on the show.
