HBO Max’s Euphoria is set to return next year after a years-long hiatus.
In a new interview with Empire, Sydney Sweeney gave some insight on the new season of the show, which has developed a cult following and launched her career. She warned fans that Season 3 is “unhinged.”
“I have such a spot in my heart for Cassie, and I hold her really close and dear,” Sweeney told writer Rebecca Nicholson.
“She is crazy. She makes so many mistakes. She’s flawed on so many levels, but she does it all from a place of love. It could be a sad version of love, as well. It’s so much fun to play a character that is as crazy as she is.
“Sam [Levinson] is such a brilliant filmmaker to work with, because I’ll read something, then I’ll call him, and I’m like, ‘Let’s go crazier.’ And he’s like, ‘I’m all in.’ And this season is unhinged.”
Season 2 of the show aired on HBO Max in 2022, and was renewed for another season that year. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the main reason for the delay is that Levinson and the network had been deciding where the show would pick up after the characters leave high school.
Last summer, Levinson confirmed that Zendaya, Sweeney, Jacob Elordi, Hunter Schafer, Alexa Demie, and Maude Apatow are expected to return for the new season. Barbie Ferreira will not appear in the show moving forward, and neither will Angus Cloud, who died in 2023 from an accidental overdose.
It's rumored that the show's plot will include a time jump. The last season ended with a police standoff at the home of Fezco (Cloud) and his brother, Ashtray (Javon Walton).
Season 3 is currently filming and is expected to arrive in 2026.
