Martin Lawrence shared his excitement over soon welcoming a new grandchild in a recent Instagram post.
On Tuesday (February 2), the comedian’s oldest child, Jasmin, 30, and her husband, Eric Murphy, 36, the oldest child of Eddie Murphy, announced that they’re expecting their first child. The couple married last May in a private ceremony after the Life costars frequently joked about who would pay for the wedding.
In Lawrence’s Instagram post, he called it a “blessing” to begin his day with the news that he would become a first-time grandfather. While Lawrence has two younger daughters, Murphy is a father of ten and has grandchildren who were seen in his Netflix documentary Being Eddie.
“My heart is overflowing with love and gratitude after the announcement of my first grandchild!” he captioned the post, a carousel of The Murphys’ maternity photos. “Watching @jasmin_lawrence and @ericmurphy777 begin this journey into parenthood means everything to me.”
He concluded, “Family is everything—and this moment is nothing less than a blessing from God. Welcome to the next generation!”
In a collaborative Instagram post from Monday, the Murphys called their baby news “the greatest gift.”
Although Lawrence and Murphy have acted together and will soon release a sequel to Blue Streak, Jasmin told told InTouch Weekly that it was her uncle who introduced her to her now-husband.
"It wasn't even our dads, and they've done two movies together, they're friends," she told the outlet. "We became really good friends because we bonded on a lot of things, and over time, it just, you know, became more."
