Zendaya is calling the public interest in her relationship with Tom Holland "parasocial" as questions about their reported marriage remain unanswered.
The 29-year-old actress made the comments while speaking to Anna Martin for The New York Times’ podcast, Modern Love, and sitting alongside Robert Pattinson, her co-star in A24’s The Drama.
Near the 25-minute mark in the video linked above, Martin directly asked Zendaya if there was anything she wanted to say about people speculating about her marital status.
“For me, there is a level of a parasocial-like investment in my personal relationship, which I understand," Zendaya explained. “I am aware that I'm a public person, and so is he. I'm also aware that we've grown up in front of people and we've done movies where we fall in love with each other. I really do understand that and I don't want to dismiss that, like, 'Stay out of my business,’ or whatever.”
She explained that at the same time, she is a “private person.”
“I try my best to be able to have things for myself, and for him as well,” the Euphoria star said. “We do our best in general to not hide ourselves from the world, but just to preserve things for ourselves so that we can maintain that joy just within ourselves and our loved ones and our family.”
Her comments came as fans are questioning the couple's status following remarks from Zendaya’s longtime stylist, Law Roach, who claimed to Access Hollywood last month that the couple already tied the knot.
“The wedding has already happened," Roach said at the time. “You missed it.”
Questions had already been building since early 2025, when Zendaya wore a large diamond ring publicly, and Holland appeared to confirm an engagement during a panel by correcting a reporter's reference to Zendaya as his girlfriend with, "Fiancée."
The couple, who met while filming Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2016, have long tried to keep their relationship private despite public attention. In 2021, their romance became widely acknowledged after they were photographed kissing.
During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Zendaya addressed the recent spread of AI-generated photos depicting her and Holland’s supposed wedding ceremony. Zendaya explained that the photos fooled both the general public and her loved ones.
“While I was just out and about in real life, people were like, ‘Oh my god, your wedding photos are gorgeous,’” she said. “And I was like, ‘Babe, they're AI. They're not real.’”
