Eddie Murphy has revealed that his son and Martin Lawrence's daughter have welcomed their first child together.
The 65-year-old actor confirmed at his American Film Institute Life Achievement Award ceremony on Saturday (April 18) that Eric Murphy and Jasmin Lawrence now have a baby girl named Ari Skye.
“They just had a baby girl. They just had her two weeks ago or a week ago,” the actor told E! News.
He also shared his approach to parenting advice.
"Oh you don't give advice like that," he quipped. “You know your kids don't go by your advice. Your kids go by the example you set. They watch you."
He continued, “The stuff you be saying, they don't even pay that shit no mind. They watch and see what you do. So, I don't give a lot of advice.”
Eric and Jasmin announced the pregnancy earlier in 2026 after a private wedding in 2025, writing on Instagram, "Thank you Jesus, for the greatest gift."
At the AFI tribute, Martin Lawrence humorously recalled how, when he was first starting out, Murphy once declined his request for a photo.
"Now I can get all the pictures I want. Because we're in-laws," Lawrence said, per the Associated Press.
Dave Chappelle also paid tribute to Eddie Murphy during the ceremony by reflecting on Murphy's influence on his own career and describing how he studied Murphy's stand-up growing up.
“I would watch him every day after school like I was taking a class," he said, before telling Eddie, "You are still the hero I want to be."
The AP reported that Murphy, while accepting the award at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, was visibly moved as he looked out at his family, collaborators, and peers.
“Seeing all of my family, all my kids, my beautiful wife, and seeing all the different people I worked with, I'm just really filled up,” he said. “This is a special moment. I wish y'all could feel what l'm feeling, see what I'm seeing. I almost teared up. I'm going to get backstage and cry."
He added, "Thank you for giving me this night that I will remember forever and ever and ever. I love you."
The tribute included appearances and remarks from figures including Spike Lee, Chris Rock, Arsenio Hall, Stevie Wonder, Mike Myers, and others, all honoring Murphy's decades-long career.
