Bad Bunny’s joyous Super Bowl Halftime Show performance, certain to stand tall for years to come as one of the most important in NFL history, certainly had New Yorkers’ attention.
In a stat shared by the New York City Department of Environmental Protection on Monday (Feb. 9), the water and sewage-handling agency noted a “significant reduction” in water usage during Benito’s headlining set. In the minutes after, however, the agency observed a spike they say was equivalent to nearly 800,000 toilets flushing.
“NYC saw a significant reduction in water usage throughout the five boroughs during the Super Bowl’s [Bad Bunny] halftime show yesterday, but in the 15 minutes right after the show ended, there was a spike in usage equivalent to 761,719 toilets flushing across town,” the agency reported.
One can assume this means that New Yorkers were holding off on bathroom breaks until after Bad Bunny wrapped his set, which featured surprise performances from Ricky Martin and Lady Gaga. During the show, Benito also paid tribute to his late uncle by wearing a No. 64 jersey as part of a larger Zara-focused wardrobe.
Of course, whoever ends up following in Bad Bunny’s footsteps has some seriously massive proverbial shoes to fill. The eventual 2027 pick remains anyone’s guess at this point, but we’ve already floated a few potential choices for the next Super Bowl.
Interestingly, next year’s game happens to fall on Feb. 14, i.e. Valentine’s Day, making Justin Bieber—whose performance of “Yukon” at the 2026 Grammys was arguably the highlight of the ceremony—a potential contender for the coveted headlining slot.
