Kid Cudi has shed light on why he chose to steer clear of alliances, in favor of a small inner circle consisting of family and close friends.
In a post shared on X on Thursday (May 14), Cudi disclosed that he has distanced himself from “a lot of alliances I had in the industry” because those individuals were solely concerned with achieving fame, living the celebrity lifestyle, and utilizing his services to their benefit.
“I distanced myself from a lot of alliances I had in the industry cuz these cats only care about fame and celebrity lifestyle and what I can do for them, no real connections,” he wrote. “And all I care about is having my family and real close friends around and buyin some new vintage clothes.”
Cudi did not explain the purpose behind this post.
The Grammy winner is approaching a month into The Rebel Ragers Tour, which had an unexpected change of plans early on with the removal of M.I.A as a supporting act.
Cudi announced in a post on his Instagram Stories earlier this month that M.I.A would not be joining him on the remaining dates of the tour after he received several messages from fans who were “upset by her rants” onstage.
Cudi said his management informed her team that he did not want anything deemed offensive at his shows. Even though he was led to believe that they had an understanding, M.I.A allegedly referred to people in the audience as “illegal” during her performances, according to videos posted by concertgoers on social media.
On the opening night of The Rebel Ragers Tour, Cudi dedicated a performance of the Kids See Ghosts track “Reborn” to the artist formerly known as Kanye West, despite their complicated relationship.
