Lady Gaga took Bad Bunny by surprise moments before he accepted this year’s Grammy for Album of the Year.
During the 68th Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday (February 1), the Mayhem vocalist appeared to give Benito some words of encouragement but unintentionally startled him when approaching his table from behind. The Latino artist was seated near the likes of Billie Eilish and Teddy Swims when, after a moment, he recognized Gaga and let out a sigh of relief. After a brief conversation, the sixteen-time Grammy winner left Bad Bunny’s table while he turned his attention back to the stage.
Shortly after, the DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS artist accepted his AOY Grammy, being the first Latino artist in history to achieve the feat. Benito also took home two additional Grammys on Sunday night; Best Global Music Performance for “EoO” and Best Música Urbana Album for DTMF. During his Best Música Urbana Album speech, the six-time Grammy winner delivered a touching and timely message to immigrants facing deportation and hate crimes.
“Before I say thanks to God, I’m gonna say, ICE out,” Bad Bunny began in his speech. “We’re not savages, we’re not animals, we’re not aliens. We are humans, and we are Americans.”
“It’s tough not to hate on these days. Sometimes we get contaminados [contaminated],” he continued. “The hate gets more powerful with more hate. The only thing that is more powerful than hate is love. So please, we need to be different. If we fight, we have to do it with love.”
The Puerto Rican artist will next hit the stage during the Super Bowl LX Halftime Show, which will be held next Sunday, February 8 in Santa Clara, California.
Lady Gaga also took home two Grammys yesterday night in the categories of Best Dance Pop Recording (“Abracadabra”) and Best Pop Vocal Album (Mayhem).
