Fetty Wap remains motivated despite facing personal obstacles.
The “Trap Queen” artist spoke to Real 92.3 LA personality DJ A-OH at the BET Media House over the weekend and discussed how he developed resilience over the years. Earlier this year, Fetty was released from prison after serving nearly four years in prison for drug trafficking conspiracy. The New Jersey rapper was originally scheduled to be released in 2029.
“Faith, man,” Fetty said around the 3:30-minute mark of the video below when detailing what got him through this period. “I never gave up on myself. And this [stems] back from when I was a child, bro, to me growing up with the congenital glaucoma [and] having one eye. … The doctors [were] telling me I wouldn't be able to drive, I wouldn't be able to ride a bike.”
The rapper added that he now drives, rides motorcycles, and has skydived.
“I did everything that everybody told me I couldn't do. And that's what kept me going,” he continued. “When I felt like everybody was, like, doubting me with the music after after a few years, it was like, ‘Bro, nah, I’ve got to keep pushing.’”
Fetty added that while behind bars, he completed his HVAC courses, earned a GED and exercised consistently.
“Everything starts with that faith, bro. And I never lost that faith in myself,” he continued.
The rapper also imparted words of encouragement, telling those who feel unmotivated to change their mindset and “take it day-by-day.”
Fetty has detailed his professional hurdles in interviews following his prison release, one of them being in a March interview for the Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast, during which he recalled his booking fee decreasing from $250,000 to $5,000 during a period of stagnation.
