42 Dugg and Roddy Ricch both reach into their rockstar personalities on their new song “4 Da Gang.” Dugg has been teasing new music for the last few weeks, and he finally delivered.

“4 Da Gang” is the Detroit rapper’s first solo release of 2021 and notably drops on 4/2, a play on 42 (pronounced Four-Two) Dugg’s stage name. Produced by TayTayMadeIt and sampling Scorpions’ 1982 song “No One Like You,” Dugg and Roddy go bar-for-bar with each other for two minutes straight. Dugg spits about holding down his city and his homies despite any of his past transgressions, while Roddy laments about still being underappreciated despite consistently putting out bangers.

Roddy has a point. Featured in Complex’s latest cover story, the west coast rapper talked about how he’s in his own lane and that no one can even mess with him at this point.

“If somebody dissed me, I would not take it seriously,” Roddy said. “I be in my own lane. I be in my own world. So I would take it as a joke. Like, just think about somebody trying to beef with Roddy. That ain’t even—that’s just a joke. N***a can’t never come out with no diss record about me. What you gonna say?”

We grimace at the thought. Meanwhile, 42 Dugg has blossomed since his ascension in 2020 from being a part of Lil Baby’s massive hit “We Paid.” While consistently performing since then, Dugg has been showing up on a flurry of new songs. He dropped off a hard verse on Taleban Dooda’s “Trappin’ Ain’t Dead” and assisted on EST Gee’s recent song “Members Only,” as well as appeared on a handful of big-name projects like Meek Mill’s Quarantine Pack and Big Sean’s Detroit 2. As he gears up for another project, the skies the limit for the Detroit rapper.
