CeeLo Green says he’d most like to go head-to-head in a VERZUZ event with Lauryn Hill.
In the latest episode of Rickey Smiley’s On the Spot podcast, the 51-year-old music multihyphenate explained why Hill, 51, would be his ideal counterpart in a VERZUZ showdown.
“I would probably had to go up against Lauryn Hill, but she's like my sister, and we were all together at the Kanye [West] show, too. So, shouts out to the queen Ms. Hill,” he said near the 40-minute mark in the video linked here.
“But it would just be nothing but a love affair because we did our first tours together,” he continued. “We've been friends for years, and she's a Gemini twin just like me. So that's my twin sister—but she does rap and sing at the same time, you know? I think I would have to be paired up with somebody who has somewhat of the same dynamic.”
Smiley also praised Tank and Tyrese’s March VERZUZ, saying that it brought audiences “so much joy” thanks to the music and the “roasting.”
“And you know what it is? Because we only feel like we know them as far as the song can expose or allow us to see them,” Green said. “But to see them in real life—their charm, charisma, comedic timing, [and] personalities—it's just so much more humanizing. That's why it was so pleasant to see. Shout out to Tank, shout out to Tyrese. Both good friends of mine. Both talented leading men.”
After Tank and Tyrese, French Montana and Rick Ross were the most recent pair to hit the VERZUZ stage. Mike WiLL Made-It and Hit-Boy also faced off earlier this year.
After a three year hiatus, Complex relaunched VERZUZ at ComplexCon 2025 in Las Vegas with Cash Money and No Limit.
