Tyrese and Tank took the stage for the latest VERZUZ event, and as expected, it was filled with memorable moments.
The event series recently got a full-scale relaunch in partnership with Apple Music and Complex, spotlighting some of the biggest names in music by bringing their respective catalogs in a live, fan-driven format. The latest event saw the R&B titans, and frequent collaborators, bring out special guests and perform some of their biggest hits. They also took time to poke fun at each other, vibed to each other’s music, and performed their collaboration “Prior To You.”
Check out a recap of some of the best moments from the event below.
Tank poked fun at Tyrese’s turtleneck
During one hilarious part of the event, Tank grilled Tyrese for his choice to wear a turtleneck with an impromptu song. “I think he’s changing clothes. Now its the jacket with the suede lapel,” Tank joked. “You still got on that turtleneck. You recycled that turtleneck. You should take off that turtleneck.”
Tyrese didn’t let the comments get to him, and even joined him in singing about turtlenecks.
Tyrese joked he was being sabotaged
“Can I get some reverb on my mic?” Tyrese said during one moment, which can be seen below. “And sound man… I know you working with Tank, but if you keep fucking my sound up…” Tank interrupted to suggest it was actually the other way around, and the two laughed off the moment.
Jamie Foxx showed up for a cameo
Jamie Foxx pulled up for a surprise appearance, describing the event as a “celebration of R&B.” When he showed up, he joked that Tyrese and Tank are both Capricorns. “Them n***as are wild,” he laughed. “They almost making it like a hip-hop battle! But it’s gonna be a lot of music, man, a lot of great times.”
He joined the two artists onstage to perform “Do What It Do,” during which both artists provided support with backing vocals.
Tyrese teased a new TGT album
At one point, Tyrese addressed the audience and revealed that Ginuwine was originally scheduled to show up, too. “Our brother Ginuwine was supposed to come here and surprise us,” he told the audience. “Because of all of the craziness going on at the airports, our brother was at the airport… We was supposed to close the show with a TGT song.”
TGT is a supergroup that consists of Tyrese, Ginuwine, and Tank. The group released their only collaborative album, Three Kings, in 2013. During the VERZUZ, however, the pair teased that another record could be on the way. “Tank, should we tell ‘em the album?” said Tyrese, to which Tank playfully shook his head.
