Rapper O.T. Genasis isn’t pleased with the idea of the Audemars Piguet and Swatch collaboration, which promises to be affordable compared to the usual watches from AP.
The collaboration was officially revealed this week after extensive speculation, and O.T. Genasis suggested that the timepiece changes how his feels about his own AP watch. “When the new AP drop I’m getting one for my son… Dope time piece,” he wrote on his Instagram Stories. “But I choose to not walk around with the new G-Shock! Great business move for Audermar tho… But I’m done. N***az that wear Jordan’s don’t wear Team Jordan’s.”
As Swatch and Audemars Piguet revealed this week, the collaboration consists of “eight unique pocket watches made for endless creative styling.” The collaboration, entitled the Royal Pop Collection, combines the designs of Audemars Piguet’s iconic Royal Oak and Swatch’s ‘80s POP watches. It’s set to go on sale starting May 16 in select Swatch stores, with confirmed locations including Atlanta, Nashville, Austin, and New York.
Genasis isn’t the only one upset with the collaboration. Rapper and streamer DDG recently expressed concern about the collaboration and said that it would devalue the Audemars Piguet he already owns.
“Just seeing this makes me want to sell my AP,” he began. “AP, what’s up, man. What’s going on? I done spent $200,000 on one of your watches. You telling me I could have waited until 2026 and spent $300 and got the same effect? The hoes can’t tell the difference. … It’s n***as out that really paid resale. I could see if I was getting my watches for fucking retail. I’m getting hit over the head for another $20,000 just to rock y’all watch.”
He suggested that the collaboration will make “a billion dollars,” but he “can’t rock” their watches anymore. “If this shit go up too much or get too hot, I’m selling my shit,” he added. When others suggested that he was overreacting, he said that only people who collect watches will understand his frustration. “That’s like buying a Ferrari & they collab with Honda & make a Ferrari Civic for $30k,” he posted on X, formerly Twitter.
