The Brooklyn Nets can’t catch a break amid ongoing celebrations spurred by the New York Knicks taking home their first championship in over half a century.
For the latest exhibit, we turn to Karl-Anthony Towns, who stopped by Late Night on Tuesday (June 16) to chop it up with Seth Meyers about the post-chip life. After the host posited that the Knicks possess a unique ability to “belong to all New Yorkers,” unlike other franchises in the state, KAT agreed by highlighting the spirit of unity he’s observed since the Mike Brown-led team clinched the title.
“The celebrations, honestly, were some of the most craziest things I’ve ever seen,” he said. “It just shows the passion our fans have, but like you said, it was so amazing to see our team bring together New York. I’ve never seen all five boroughs get together. Hell, I saw Brooklyn celebrating for the Knicks and they have a whole team!”
Elsewhere in the Meyers chat, KAT again praised fiancée Jordyn Woods’s “lucky” orange clutch (“That bag needs to be in the Smithsonian right now”) and reflected on the generational healing power of securing the title.
“I don’t think for us, as players, we can truly understand the magnitude of what we’ve done because it really wasn’t meant for us,” he said. “It was meant for the fans. I didn’t know at that point, when you keep thinking about the fans, we were really healing Patrick [Ewing] and them too in this run. I didn’t realize how much healing we would actually do for the city in winning that championship, so it’s an honor that we were the team to be able to do it.”
As for the Nets, the team previously caught a revived stray thanks to the resurfacing of a 2025 interview with Knicks superfan Timothée Chalamet.
“If you're a Nets fan, you should be on, like, a government list or something,” the Dune star joked in the resurfaced 7PM in Brooklyn clip, seen here. “There’s something wrong with you.”
