Sugar Ray Leonard has been pushed to the point that he’s had to take legal action against his son, Daniel.
Court documents obtained by TMZ reveal that the boxing legend filed for a restraining order, alleging the 25-year-old has struggled with substance abuse issues for "seven or eight years at least."
Leonard claimed that, over the last year, Daniel crashed five of their cars, and that he's endured four overdoses, two of which required hospitalization. The 70-year-old also said that Daniel "has stolen extreme amounts of money, valuable items. He basically steals every day for years!"
Leonard added: "His behavior has started to get violent."
The filing arrives after Daniel was arrested last week for allegedly breaking into his father's Los Angeles home and violating a temporary restraining order.
"I love my son but he has become a danger not only himself but to his family!" Leonard wrote in the new filing. "My wife is extremely afraid along with my daughter Camille! His behavior has gotten worse everyday. We haven't had a day of peace in 9 years which is the reality of his addiction! Scared for my family!"
Leonard requested that Daniel be kept at least 100 yards from him, his wife, his daughter, and his residence, workplace, vehicles, and pets. He also asked that Daniel be removed from the home entirely. A judge accepted Leonard’s requests but said additional information was needed to add his daughter, Camille, as a protected party.
The family has a hearing next month to decide whether they need to take more permanent measures. Daniel also has a court date next month for his arrest.
Daniel is the youngest of Leonard’s four children. Leonard shares sons Ray Charles Jr. and Jarrel with ex-wife Juanita Wilkinson, while Daniel and daughter Camille were born during his marriage to wife Bernadette Robi, whom he married in 1993.
