Several New York Giants legends are weighing in on the controversy surrounding rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart, and while their reactions differ, the common theme is clear: navigating New York's spotlight requires careful decision-making both on and off the field.

The most measured response came from former Giants quarterback Phil Simms, who went on the Up & Adams Show with Kay Adams to urge Dart to keep the focus on football. According to Simms, the attention surrounding Dart's recent public appearances serves as a reminder that every move made by a Giants quarterback is magnified in one of the country's largest media markets. His advice was straightforward: tone down the distractions and concentrate on the job at hand.

Not every Giants legend was as restrained. Former Pro Bowl offensive lineman Jumbo Elliott openly criticized Dart following the quarterback's appearance at a May event in Suffern, New York, where he introduced President Donald Trump before a speech. Elliott reportedly described the situation as "pitiful" while questioning Dart's public involvement in such a politically charged moment.

The comments from Simms and Elliott arrive as Dart continues to face scrutiny over an appearance that quickly became one of the NFL's most talked-about offseason storylines. The controversy intensified when Giants linebacker Abdul Carter reacted publicly after seeing video of the event, posting on social media, "Thought this sh*t was AI, what we doing man." The message was later deleted.

As discussion around the incident spread, the Giants reportedly held a closed-door meeting involving veteran leaders, including Brian Burns, Kayvon Thibodeaux, and Jameis Winston. The focus of those conversations was maintaining unity within the locker room and preventing outside issues from becoming internal distractions.

Outside the Giants organization, Hall of Fame running back Jerome Bettis offered a broader perspective on the situation. Bettis said disagreements among teammates are inevitable but emphasized that successful teams are built on mutual respect rather than shared political beliefs.

"You don't have to agree," Bettis said. "You don't agree with your teammate, but you got to find a way to work with them."
