A newly released study puts real numbers behind NFL Sunday gameday habits—and it turns out New York Giants fans are among the most dedicated drinkers once the game actually kicks off.
To coincide with the start of the NFL season and National Beer Lovers Day, betting and analytics site Action Network surveyed 3,058 NFL fans in August 2025. The goal was to track how supporters across the league drink on gameday, from pregame rituals to in-stadium consumption.
For the study, “heavy drinking” was defined as consuming five or more drinks.
When it comes to what happens inside the stadium, Giants fans stand out. According to the survey, 72% of New York Giants fans report drinking during games, and 16% report consuming five or more drinks while watching their team. That combination places Big Blue supporters near the top of the league in terms of in-game alcohol consumption.
League-wide, in-stadium drinking is common: nearly half of all fans said they consume alcohol before entering the stadium, often to avoid inflated concession prices.
A standard 16-ounce beer in 2025 costs around $10 to $11 at most NFL venues, with some markets pushing far higher. As the study points out, eight beers inside a stadium can easily run well over $80—and in places like Washington or Las Vegas, that total can climb past $120.
That context helps explain why pregaming remains popular. Among Giants fans specifically, 56% reported drinking before entering the stadium, although they were not the most aggressive pregame crowd. Teams like the Los Angeles Chargers and Houston Texans topped that category. Giants fans instead made their mark once seated, outpacing many other fan bases during the game.
Across the NFL, Houston Texans fans were the most likely to drink during games (80%), while Pittsburgh Steelers fans showed the most restraint, with fewer than half reporting any in-stadium drinking.
Meanwhile, Arizona Cardinals fans led the league in overall heavy drinking when combining pregame and in-game behavior.
