Less than two weeks after surviving a controversial collision with Brittney Griner, Angel Reese found herself at the center of another physical WNBA flashpoint — this time involving a former teammate.
During the Commissioner’s Cup matchup between the Atlanta Dream and Toronto Tempo on Sunday, June 14, Isabelle Harrison was ejected after wrapping up Reese and bringing her to the floor during a heated third-quarter sequence that quickly escalated into one of the league's most talked-about moments.
According to Bleacher Report, the play came after tensions had been building throughout the game. Reese and Harrison spent much of the afternoon battling for position in the paint while exchanging words during multiple possessions. The situation boiled over when Reese attempted to establish a position on the block. Harrison hooked Reese around the arms and drove her to the court, triggering a brief confrontation between players from both teams. Officials reviewed the play and assessed Harrison a Flagrant 2 foul, resulting in an automatic ejection. Reese, visibly emotional after the takedown, was seen in tears before teammates helped calm the situation.
Harrison and Reese were teammates on the Chicago Sky during Reese's rookie season in 2024. At the time, Harrison was viewed as one of the veteran voices in the locker room and frequently defended Reese and other young players from outside criticism. Their relationship appeared supportive throughout their season together, making the most recent confrontation all the more surprising.
The Harrison incident also occurred less than two weeks after Reese's highly publicized run-in with Griner. During Atlanta's June 2 win over Connecticut, Griner caught Reese across the neck while contesting a rebound, sending the Dream star crashing to the floor.
Officials reviewed that play and issued a Flagrant 1 foul, later fining Griner $500 under league rules. Griner immediately helped Reese to her feet, and the two avoided any further confrontation.
