Following the Boston Celtics’ 121-113 win over the Toronto Raptors on Sunday (Dec. 7), Jaylen Brown praised Scottie Barnes while comparing him to a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle.
During a recent stream on Twitch, Brown joked about facing off against Barnes, who had 18 points and 11 rebounds during the game. “Scottie Barnes is strong as shit,” said Brown, as seen in the clip below. “This motherfucker got, like, that extra chromosome strength. He just some type of Ninja Turtle, or something, that boy strong as hell.”
While Brown clearly meant to complement Barnes, some people took the extra chromosome comment as a knock against him.
Brown put in a very impressive showing on Sunday, too, scoring 30 points during the game, just ahead of his Celtics teammate Derrick White, who scored 27 points. The four-time All-Star, who has been with the Celtics since he was drafted in 2016, has recently taken to streaming as a hobby between his games.
He recently addressed criticism from some people who suggested that it could serve as a distraction for his basketball career. “They think ‘cause I’m streaming, I’m not locked in,” he said during another recent stream. “I’m the most locked in in my life I’ve ever been. I promise y’all. I’m ready to win, I’m ready to lead, I’m ready to do whatever it takes to win. I want all the smoke.”
Regardless of the criticism, Brown said that he’s still committed to streaming and controlling “the narrative” around him. “We still gonna give y’all what y’all wanna see,” he continued. “If you streaming they be like, ‘He’s not focused…’ Last game I streamed… We won, back to back. We doin g what we gotta do, this basketball shit come first. But, letting y’all know, we gonna keep it going, I’mma be consistent.”
