After bringing back Ronaldo Nazario’s Mercurial R9 in the form of a Cryoshot sneaker this year, Nike is also releasing a new Air Max sneaker inspired by R9’s classic cleats.
Shown here is the “R9” Nike Air Max Joga Bonito (style code: IX8646-001) and according to the retailer Hibbett, the sneaker is launching in early July. The upper adopts the Mercurial R9 design that Ronaldo famously wore during the 1998 FIFA World Cup, featuring a metallic silver upper paired with blue and yellow trim running from the heel to the forefoot. Additional details include a Swoosh at the midfoot of the lateral side as well as “R9” branding on the tongue. Sitting below the upper is an Air Max 95 tooling.
The “R9” Nike Air Max Joga Bonito is scheduled to release on July 2 at Hibbett.com and at select Nike Sportswear retailers for $170.
