The Nike Air Rift 2 in Summit White is available now on Complex.
The Air Rift 2 originally dropped in 2002, six years after Nike first introduced the split tabi toe to the world with the Air Rift. Despite the original Rift going on to become a cult favorite, the sequel never got its moment in the spotlight.
The Air Rift 2 isn't just a straight reissue of the original. Where the first Rift drew its midsole shape from the Great Rift Valley, the sequel swaps that in for a chunkier, cleaner build with smoothed-out surfaces. The elastic strap system is gone too, replaced by a mesh bootie construction that wraps the foot more snugly. Ventilated mesh runs along both sides of the upper, and the split tabi toe stays put. On this Summit White version, Ice Blue accents land on the forefoot Swooshes and insoles, giving the otherwise clean white build a cool, understated edge.
