The most hyped manga in the weekly Shonen Jump collection is getting its own anime adaptation.
The dark, gritty manga Kagurabachi has been announced, and it’s set to arrive next April. At the Shonen Jump Jump Press event, a short teaser for the revenge anime series was revealed that showcased the protagonist, Chihiro Rokuhira, slicing heads as stylishly as possible.
Check out the trailer below.
Kagurabachi’s anime will be produced by Cypic studios, which is best known for its work on Umamusume: Pretty Derby and The Summer Hikaru Died. It will be directed by acclaimed anime director Tetsuya Takeuchi, who’s worked on Naruto, Sword Art Online, Lycoris Recoil, and other major anime.
“When you think of Kagurabachi, you think of katana! And more katana! Plus cool characters and intense drama! I’ll work hard to capture all those elements and aim to make a show that both long-time fans of the manga and first-time viewers alike can enjoy!” said Takeuchi in pre-translated messages shared during the teaser’s livestream.
The Kagurabachi anime is set to have character designer Keigo Sasaki be a part of it. Saski is known for his work in popular anime like Blue Exorcist, Erased, and The Seven Deadly Sins.
Kagurabachi follows the story of Chihiro, who’s out to reclaim Enchanted Blades, created by his father, and exact vengeance on a group of sorcerers who killed his predecessor. There are six known blades, and one of them that Chihiro has kept a secret. Known for its bloody, visceral fights, fans are eager to see how its popular fight scenes come to life.
If you want to get a preview of the anime before it arrives next year, a Kagurabachi world tour has been revealed to occur this summer, which will be a screening of the first 20 minutes of episode 1 at anime events around the world.
