Drake’s long-teased Iceman, if all goes according to plan, will be out this Friday (May 15), and fans are still wondering who all may end up being enlisted for what’s sure to be a spectacle-level rollout.
Among the names currently being floated on social media is comedian Shane Gillis, who has hosted SNL twice since his well-publicized 2019 firing amid criticism of resurfaced clips that he argued at the time were taken out of context.
Last year, Gillis launched the second season of Tires, a comedy series he co-created with Steve Gerben and John McKeever. More recently, he was seen at Netflix’s The Roast of Kevin Hart.
But is there any truth to the Drake speculation?
Below, we take a closer look.
Shane Gillis allegedly tells fellow comedian he’s headed to Toronto for a Drake video shoot
The claim stems from a recent episode of Mark Normand and Joe List’s Tuesdays With Stories! podcast. In this clip, there’s a mention of Gillis, whose level of fame is discussed by the hosts as being a presumably daunting experience, at one point saying that he was on his way to Toronto.
“I’m in a music video with Drake,” Gillis was claimed to have told Normand.
However, the full-length version of the episode that’s currently available on YouTube appears to have been edited to remove the Toronto and Drake mentions, although it wasn’t immediately clear when the edit occurred, or why.
Shane Gillis is photographed at Drake’s Iceman ice installation in Toronto
Back in April, a photo was shared showing Gillis at Drake’s much-headlined ice installation in Toronto alongside producer Boi-1da.
Shane Gillis previously appeared in an Eminem video
Eminem’s “Houdini,” the lead single from his 2024 concept album The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce), got an official video from director (and frequent Em collaborator) Rich Lee in 2024.
In it, Gillis makes a cameo, as do Pete Davidson and 50 Cent, among others.
